i2cat has been one of the few institution in Europe in the design, deployment and provision of advanced HD media services to the academic and creative user communities using GEANT2 and other advanced networks. In 2001 i2cat supported the first uncompressed HD transmission of a live opera over optical networks. Since then, i2cat has participated in several projects including HD demonstrations of cultural events first with Research Channel in US (Gaudi HD 2002), with the Korean ANF and CANARIE (Forum of Cultures 2005, Dancing Q 2006), becoming known as a global leader in this field. At this moment, we are participating in the developing team of Ultragrid, the originally DARPA software for sharing uncompressed HDSDI video over IP, and of using SAGE, as a distributed display solution for upper high definition resolution.
